DATELINE 02 JUNE 2022...
...and I will be using that rather contrived titling theme throughout this blog in case you are
wondering.
What is this blog all about?
Initially I wanted to write about my obsession with nuclear themed media of which covered
all manner of forms. Films, computer games, television shows, public information films,
books, comics, radio, board games and every single aspect of popular media where
this frightening topic pops up.
It was going to be predominantly serious with undertones of dark humour and
each blog post would more or less be in a review format. Albeit less formal
if the subject suited it.
Then the war in Ukraine happened and it felt like I was living that first part of threads, y'know
with the dreaded dateline -hence the heading format- countdown and everything became
genuinely terrifying. I started to develop acute anxiety and found myself checking the news
about every ten minutes.
To make matters worse that kind Mr.Putin thought it best to tell the world he was putting his
nuclear forces on a higher alert and for the next few days I couldn't get my fear of a nuclear
war out of my head.
With the help of my girlfriend, some OCD therapy I was getting and deciding to
get angry at Putin and Russian forces for their actions rather than being scared
I got over it. The fact that seeing the horrors Ukrainians actually were going
through also made me wake up to how lucky I was in the moment and to appreciate
that instead.
It did make me rethink my project in this blog however. I felt little to no desire
to write post after post of chilling reviews on an issue as grim as nuclear
war and I don't think people in general really want to read things like
that at least in the current climate.
It seems we are also headed for a new Cold War as well so the future has
become rather more bleak.
So what you will find in this blog is a different take on the same topic, with the same
scope and the same mission statement. The difference is it is going to be fucking
stupid, designed to make you
laugh at a very serious subject.
The idea is to make you laugh about something that would usually bring you to tears.
...life is too serious to take it seriously.
